Honor the Slaves that made America great

Today begins African American History Month. Although, African Americans descendents are students of African American History every day, this month is an opportunity for all to honor the contributions of determined African people to overcome hardship and oppression.

This month spend time honoring the ancestors that gave America free labor, talent, skills, abilities, the roots of soul, R&B, rock n roll, jazz, rap, and salsa. Celebrate their strength to rise to become superstars in every field and industry. Honor those slaves that endured torture of being cut open while alive and given diseases to gain knowledge for science and medicine.

Remember the strong African people enslaved by greedy people. America was fortunate to have proud African people who prayed to the gods of nature, heaven and earth and believed that little by little in time their children would be free. Many people of African descent have forgotten the gods of their ancestors but their gods did not forget them because 150 years later African Americans technically are free. However they have not achieved the equality that Mother Mary McLeod Bethune envisioned in her last will and testimony as many were tricked through time into separating from each other and splintering into divided groups.

Mother Mary McLeod Bethune legacy included love, hope, the challenge to have confidence in one another, the thirst for education, the respect for the uses of power, faith, racial dignity and the desire to live harmonious with our fellow humans. For this year pray that each and every person be empowered with the legacy that she left behind to restore African Americans to their former greatness before slavery.

The fact that no slave received any compensation for their enslavement is horrendous, but now they want to erase slavery from the history books. Oppose this despicable plan. Do not allow the sacrifices of slaves to be in vain. Remember African American slaves were viciously abused, beaten and hanged. Slaves were considered three-fifths human. Take time this month to honor slaves by acknowledging that they lived and they were human beings. Remembrance by all Americans is an opportunity to heal the injustices caused by slavery.

Remember Mother Mary McLeod Bethune and her magnificent legacy of love it will lift you to the highest heights of your greatest destiny.

May the Great Spirit that helped African Americans to achieve freedom continue to help all people to succeed in obtaining full equality for America has come too far to turn back now!

"(...) now they want to erase slavery from the history books (...)"

What's going on in America? Conveniently "forgetting" shameful parts of history?

Ase Baba Verduijin,

It is a shame and a ploy to erase the devious deeds of the past. First it is outrageous that the slavery practice was legalized now they want to forget it as it my ancestors never existed. So what that does is to dishonor their memory and erase their existence!

What about the black people from South America, or those from Australia?

Not all black people in the USA came from Africa. Not all people who came from Africa are black.

All Black people's origin is Africa!! The ploy to erase slavery from their history is dispicable enough. However, we will never forget such brutality!!

Kate Perez, you are undoubtedly correct... but that's not what the issue is about. It's pinpointed at what seems to be the attempted erasure of part of US-American history... which is dishonest, narrow-minded, un-academic, and a bloody shame to boot! If you'd like to see a bit more about African culture both in Africa and the Diaspora, by all means have a look at http://www.ifa-orisha.com which, within the limits of my qualities and capacities, gives at least SOME impression of the cultural influence of Africa on the United States.

Thank you for this reminder, Queen Mother. You'll be pleased to know that slavery cannot be written out of history books used in public schools in America since 45 states have adopted Common Core standards which provide for exactly the same curriculum, so that children in New York are learning the same history as children in Hawaii. The effort to remove slavery from history books was a small effort by members of the legislature in just one state, and it didn't pass. Finally, all black people were originally from Africa, including those in South America. The "black" people in Australia are aborigines. Good job, Queen Mother!

Even stronger: ALL people (black, white, yellow, red... whatever color) are originally from Africa. Africa is the source of humankind!

Greetings KatiePerez,

We must be historians and not personalize history. The cradle of civilization is from Africa therefore all people are from Africa whether you like it or not. Ruby is the mother of all, in addition check your DNA her strand is in you too!

I am ok with erasing the term Black History month and replacing it with American History because America (As we know it) was structured in the labor, pain, sweat, tears, and blood of Africans.

Ase Baba David,

You are absolutely on point by including a distinct of the land and not color would make the history books more culturally appropriate. Since the term black as well as white divides people into colors and continues the racist socialization agenda. Thank you for your comment!
